Time off

Illumina provides you with a generous time off program to give you the opportunity to relax and recharge.

The basics

Flexible Time Off (FTO)

Applicable to Exempt/Salaried Employees

FTO gives you the flexibility to take paid time off without needing to accrue hours in advance. Plan your time away in a way that supports both your personal well-being and business needs.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

Applicable to Non-Exempt/Hourly Employees

PTO lets you accumulate and accrue time off, up to a maximum limit. Any unused time can be carried over from year to year. However, once you hit the maximum limit, you won’t accrue additional PTO until you use some of your balance.

Illumina observes paid holidays each year.

  • New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Summer Break: Week of July 4
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day & Friday After Thanksgiving
  • Winter Break: Week between Christmas and New Year’s Day

Compassion & Care Time Off (CCTO)

Illumina offers up to 30 calendar days (20 working days) of paid time off to support you during difficult, unexpected life events, including:

  • Loss or serious injury of a loved one
  • Reproductive loss, including miscarriage, failed adoption, and unsuccessful assisted reproduction
  • End-of-life care or emergency support for a loved one
  • Property loss due to fire or natural disaster

To make a request for CCTO, reach out to your manager.

Volunteer Time Off (VTO)

You can take up to 16 hours of paid time each year to volunteer for charitable or community causes.

Jury duty

If you are scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week, Illumina provides full pay for up to 5 days of jury duty.
