Leaves of absence

Illumina offers leave of absence options so you can take extended time away from work to focus and care for yourself or loved ones.

The basics

How it works

You can take a leave of absence for a variety of reasons, including:

  • A medical condition (yours or a family member’s)
  • Birth or adoption of your child
  • Serving in the military as a reservist or National Guard membe

What’s covered

Illumina offers a variety of leave options to benefits-eligible employees, so you can help take care of yourself and your family.

The amount of leave available depends on the leave reason and type. If you qualify for more than one type of leave, they are applied concurrently.

What it pays

Depending on the type of leave, you may qualify to receive disability benefits, state benefits, and/or pay from Illumina.

Pay and benefits on leave

The Larkin Company, Illumina’s leave administrator, will explain how to apply for any state benefits or Illumina disability benefits for which you may be eligible. Your Illumina benefits will continue for up to six months of leave. If you receive pay from Illumina during your leave, most of your benefit contributions will continue. Otherwise, you will need to make up the benefit payments upon your return from leave.
