Planning for a family

Illumina offers support and resources to guide your path to parenthood.

Your Illumina medical plan provides support at every stage of your family journey ⎯ from preparing for pregnancy to fertility treatment and maternity care. Coverage includes preconception, prenatal, and maternity care. For complete details, log in to your medical plan portal.

Cleo provides a 1:1 guide that can help you navigate the planning phase, and that same 1:1 guide continues to provide support for your parenting journey.

Whether you’re just starting to explore fertility options or actively seeking treatment, Progyny provides personalized support and advanced treatment options. Progyny resources are also available to support with surrogacy.

Illumina provides access to genetic counseling at no cost to you from Genome Medical. Genetic counseling can help you understand potential risks and make informed decisions about your reproductive health.

If you aren’t enrolled in an Illumina medical plan, you may be eligible for financial support for certain genetic tests associated with pregnancy or IVF, if the tests are not covered by your other medical insurance. Learn more.

Illumina offers financial support if you adopt a child and will reimburse up to $5,000 of eligible adoption expenses, such as legal fees and travel expenses. Complete the Adoption Assistance Request Form

Welcoming a new child

Bringing a new child into your family is a life-changing experience, and Illumina is here to support you every step of the way.

Parental Leave allows both birth parents and non-birth parents time to bond with a new child after birth or adoption. Learn more.

If you qualify, you may receive Short Term Disability (STD) benefits, state benefits, and pay from Illumina during your Pregnancy and/or Parental Leave. Please review the Leave of Absence Guide to Pay and Benefits to learn more.

Going back to work and beyond

Transitioning back to work can be challenging. Illumina offers resources to help you balance your work and family.

If you need permanent child care, Bright Horizons is available to help. Search the CareDirect database for personal services like babysitters, housekeepers or pet sitters. Register now so you’re ready to use the benefit when you need it.

Whether you’re experiencing a breakdown in your normal child care or looking for an after-school sitter, Bright Horizons Care Advantage™ is available to all Illumina employees and includes other helpful services as well.

This program provides up to 10 days of back-up care per year. Illumina covers the majority of the cost for back-up care. Your cost is $15/child to a maximum of $25/family for use of center-based child care or $6/hour for in-home care services for any age.

Navigate everyday parenting challenges easily with Cleo, our personalized caregiver support program.

If you require lactation accommodations, you have access to secure and discreet wellness rooms. Amenities vary by location and may include a chair/sofa, adjustable lighting, a refrigerator, a mirror, a sink and more.

Wellness Rooms are provided at all U.S. sites and can be booked via Outlook Calendar.

Whether you’re adjusting to life with a new baby, navigating postpartum emotions, or balancing the demands of parenthood and work, Lyra is here to help. You have access to up to 16 free sessions with a therapist or coach for support with everyday challenges, emotional wellbeing, and family transitions.

Taking care of adult or elder family members

Supporting your aging loved ones can be challenging. Illumina offers benefits and resources to help you care for your parents or other disabled adults and elders.

Cleo offers personalized guidance, coaching, and resources for caregiving. You can get support with daily needs, managing appointments, or planning long-term care.

If your usual care arrangement falls through, you may be able to access temporary back-up care for older family members through Bright Horizons Care Advantage™. 

If you need extended time away to care for a seriously ill or aging family member, you may be eligible for a leave of absence.

Caring for aging loved ones can be rewarding and demanding at the same time. Lyra offers support for you and your household members, including adults who live with you. Each person has access to up to 16 free therapy or coaching sessions each year to help manage stress and caregiving responsibilities.
