Sometimes the unexpected happens. If you can’t work because of an illness or medical condition, disability insurance replaces a portion of your pay to help cover expenses, so you can focus on getting better.
Illumina automatically provides you with Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) insurance.
Short-Term Disability (STD) benefits begin after 7 days of illness or injury and can last up to 12 weeks. If you’re still unable to work after 90 days, Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage will begin.
Disability insurance pays if you can’t work because of an illness or injury. Delivery of a child is included.
You receive a portion of your pre-disability income when you’re ill or injured and unable to work. During enrollment, you decide how this benefit is taxed. See below for details.
If your disability claim is approved, this is how your benefits work:
These days are covered by FTO, or PTO (if available).
You receive 60% of your pre-disability income to a maximum of $2,500 per week.*
Benefits end when you recover and return to work or move to LTD.
You receive 66.67% of your pre-disability income to a maximum of $12,000 per month.*
Benefits end when you are no longer disabled according to the terms of the plan or when you reach Social Security Normal Retirement Age.
*Offset by applicable statutory disability benefits
During enrollment, you choose how your disability benefits are taxed. You have two options:
Make your selection in Workday during enrollment. If you don’t choose, you’ll be defaulted to the “Disability Payments Taxed” option.
If you think you may qualify for disability benefits, reach out to our leave administration partner, The Larkin Company, to initiate a leave of absence. They can also provide you with instructions on how to apply for disability benefits. See the Leaves of Absence page for more information.
